The State Pension rose by 4.1% in April 2025, matching earnings growth — the highest of the three triple lock measures (earnings, CPI inflation, or 2.5%). The full new State Pension increased from £221.20/week. The triple lock is government policy until at least 2029.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my actual NI record?
Log in at gov.uk/check-state-pension using your Government Gateway account. You’ll see your current NI record, any gaps, which years you can fill, and a personalised State Pension forecast. This is the only reliable way to get an accurate forecast — our calculator gives an estimate based on the figures you enter.
Is it worth buying missing NI years?
Usually yes — voluntary Class 3 NI costs £824.20 per year (2024/25 rate) and buys you £6.32/week (£328.64/year) of extra State Pension. The breakeven is typically just 2.5 years after State Pension age, making it excellent value for most people who expect to live a normal lifespan. Class 2 NI (for those with self-employment history) is even cheaper at £179.40/year, giving the same benefit. You can typically go back 6 years, but a special government scheme has allowed going back further — check gov.uk for current deadlines.
